The date: December 1, 1955

The place: A bus in Montgomery, Alabama, U.S.A.

What happened: Rosa Parks refused to obey bus driver James F. Blake’s order to give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger, after the white section was filled.

A result: Rosa Parks was arrested on December 1, 1955, for violating a Montgomery law requiring racial segregation of public buses.

Another result: This incident ignited the Montgomery Bus Boycotts.

Better result: The Supreme Court Of The United States on November 13, 1956 struck down the Montgomery city and Alabama state bus segregation laws as they violated the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
